A Revitalization and a New Look
Massive modernizations to Lake Placid Legacy Sites Inspire Unique New Brand Identities
The Lake Placid Legacy Sites, consisting of Whiteface Mountain, Mt Van Hoevenberg, the Olympic Center, and the Olympic Jumping Complex, are entering a new era. These are the competitive venues where the world’s attention was focused during the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Games, and they are all newly modernized following major investments and renovations. And now, for the first time in history, distinctive new logo marks will also be adopted to individually represent each of the four Olympic venues and reflect their unique histories and features.
This is our Whiteface Mountain logo story.
Born of Olympic glory, Whiteface has a long and storied history. The mountain offers a magnificent silhouette, standing at 4,867 feet and 10 miles north from the other High Peaks. Once represented by a shared logo of a single mountain and an Olympic flame, Whiteface has expanded to a three-mountain premiere resort experience. With new recreational trails, world-class courses on Little Whiteface, The Slides at the Summit, and an 8-mile highway that carries forward honor, history, and incredible views, Whiteface Mountain is so much more than one peak and one experience. The overall triangular shape carries forward the legacy of the Olympics and the iconic 1980 cauldron from its previous logo, and the three peaks within showcase the vastness of all it offers in the present day. The renewed font, colors, and logo mark are representative of its revitalized status. Like its silhouette, Whiteface’s breathtaking views leave the biggest of impressions while thoughtful approaches to ecological impacts exemplify how conservation and recreation can coexist. The new mark bridges the past and future to illustrate the totality that this unique, legendary, and year-round facility is today.
For fans of the original mountain and flame icon, rest assured, it won’t be lost. With a slight change to update the typestyle and flame, the original will remain as the parent logo for the ORDA organization. At the same time, all new logo mark designs breathe new life into the individual venue identities of each of the Legacy Sites.
Great organizations and great brands are always evolving. That’s how they stay great. The updated ORDA logo and the new Whiteface logo are signals to the world that this Olympic Region’s treasured venues are part of a strong vision for the future and are worthy of being celebrated among the pre-eminent facilities in the world.
