A Renaissance and a New Look
Massive modernizations to Lake Placid Legacy Sites Inspire Unique New Brand Identities
The Lake Placid Legacy Sites, consisting of the Olympic Center, the Olympic Jumping Complex, Mt Van Hoevenberg, and Whiteface Mountain, are entering a new era. These are the competitive venues where the world’s attention was focused during the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Games, and they are all newly modernized following major investments and renovations. And now, for the first time in history, distinctive new logo marks will also be adopted to individually represent each of the four Olympic venues and reflect their unique histories and features.
This is our Olympic Center logo story.
Steeped in history, the Lake Placid Olympic Center (OC) is home to four historic ice surfaces: the James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval, 1932 Jack Shea Arena, 1980 Herb Brooks Arena, and the USA rink. The OC’s new brand mark features four interior lines, each of which represent one of the rinks, with all the logo lines connected to symbolize the rinks’ connections both physically via the new Miracle Plaza and historically by virtue of glorious events that shaped Lake Placid’s legacy. The lines and design come together to also illustrate the often used and beloved acronym OC. Additionally, the mark carries a sport feel representative of the figure skating, speed skating and hockey lifestyles that permeate the facility, while the Olympic legacy itself is artfully showcased through the color palette. As the heart of sport and excellence in Lake Placid, the integration of the color red carries forward a ring of the Olympic legacy and the reimagined rhythm – the heartbeat – of its bold new future.
Great organizations and great brands are always evolving. That’s how they stay great. We are not only serving the organization’s mandate and mission but also simultaneously repositioning the region’s appeal and stature in the world of winter sport. The updated ORDA logo and the Olympic Center logo are signals to the world that this Olympic Region’s treasured venues are part of a strong vision for the future.
