About
Since 1983, the Lake Placid Hall of Fame has inducted 130 individuals, as well as the members of the 1948 U.S. Olympic Four-Man Bobsled Team and the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team. Permanent plaques commemorating each member are on display in the Olympic Center’s Hall of Fame between the 1932 Jack Shea Rink and the Lake Placid Conference Center.

Selection Criteria
Overview
To be considered for membership, individuals should be past or current residents of the Olympic Region, or have some significant connection to the area. Nominees must have made significant sports, cultural or civic contributions to the Olympic Region, or their endeavors must have enhanced the historical heritage of the area. In addition to their sports accomplishments, athletes must also have made meaningful contributions to society improving the quality of life or the fellowship of man in the Olympic Region.
Criteria Details
In general, below are the criteria the committee reviews when considering a candidate for induction as stated in the bylaws:
- The purpose of the organization is to nominate and select residents, past or present, of the Olympic Region to the Lake Placid Hall of Fame based on their significant contribution to the betterment and promotion of the Olympic Region, either through sports or civic and cultural involvement.
- The Olympic Region will be defined as the areas of Essex, Clinton and Franklin counties in New York State.
- Athlete candidates for the Hall of Fame induction must meet the following criteria:
- A current or past resident (full or part-time) of the Olympic Region who has had significant connection or affiliation with significant athletic victories in the region.
- Professional or amateur athlete who has accomplished significant and sanctioned athletic accomplishment, such as champion or winner of a class or category in which the athlete competes, either individually or as a member of a team.
- Athletes who have made meaningful and recognized contributions to our society in the form of civic, community, charitable, business, organizational or similar work and made non-athletic contributions and attained achievements above that of the average citizen, in a way which meaningfully contributes to and/or improves the quality of life or the fellowship of man in the Olympic Region.
- Non-athletic the Hall of Fame induction must meet the following criteria:
- A current or past resident (full or part-time) of the Olympic Region, having some significant connection or affiliation with the Olympic Region, such as having contributed to improvement of the region, or a person who is widely acknowledged to have made significant contribution to sports or to cultural and civic activities or the region through non-athletic endeavors.
- The Hall of Fame Committee maintains a file of the names and biographies of persons previously suggested for election to the Lake Placid Hall of Fame, of which currently includes over 80 individuals.
Nominations
The Hall of Fame Selection Committee currently maintains a list of over 80 candidates who have been nominated in previous years. Nominations are only considered if they are accompanied by a historical biography and a list of accomplishments relative to the purpose of the Hall of Fame. The committee accepts nominations until July 1 of each year, meets to consider nominees during the summer months and hosts the Annual Induction Banquet in the Fall.
