Lake Placid Legacy Sites - Visit Olympic Venues in the Adirondacks

Lake Placid has had the privilege of hosting two Olympic Winter Games, first in 1932, and again in 1980. The venues used for the Games are collectively known as the Lake Placid Legacy Sites, and include: Olympic Center, Olympic Jumping Complex, Mt Van Hoevenberg, and Whiteface Mountain.

Today, these venues continue to host visitors, events, and serve as a unique training grounds for many sports. They have undergone the biggest improvement projects to date, which were just showcased to the world as they hosted the 2023 Winter World University Games. Fall Fun

Veterans' Memorial Highway

A paved road rising over 2,300 feet in five miles from the Toll House to the summit of Whiteface at 4,867’. Along the way and on top you'll have gorgeous views spanning hundreds of miles. Plus on top is a castle, gift shop, food truck, and elevator!

Sky Flyer Zipline

The Sky Flyer follows the HS 100 meter ski jump, emulating the flight of ski jumping at speeds up to 30 miles per hour. You’ll feel the exhilaration of an Olympian as you take flight!

Cliffside Coaster

Ride the longest coaster in North America! The Cliffside Coaster puts you in the driver’s seat on the 1980 Olympic Sliding Track for a ride where you control the speed through sharp corners, cliffside banks and long winding track.

Cloudsplitter Gondola

A fifteen-minute ride through awe-inspiring scenery, the Cloudsplitter transports visitors from the base of Whiteface to the peak of Little Whiteface for a viewing platform of the surrounding Adirondack Mountains and beyond.

Skyride

Take a unique tour of a unique venue. Start on the scenic gondola and then take an elevator with glass windows to the top of the HS 120 ski jump tower for incredible views. Maybe you will even catch ski jumpers training!
