IBSF World Push Championships Dec. 9 and 10

The New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) announces Mt Van Hoevenberg will host the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation’s (IBSF) World Push Championships Friday and Saturday, December 9 and 10, 2022.

What: Mt Van Hoevenberg is pulling out all the stops to showcase the speed and strength of push athletes in this international competition. In sliding sports, the push start is a key to overall success, and in the event’s finals, this made-for-TV-style production will capture the excitement of sliding sports as the competition combines the lowest times from the best two starts in each discipline. This championship event will include 4-man bobsleigh, 2-woman bobsleigh, women’s monobob, 2-man bobsleigh, women’s skeleton, and men’s skeleton.

When: Each round includes two runs per athlete or team.

Where: Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid is home to the only indoor push track for bobsled and skeleton in the U.S. At this state-of-the-art facility inside the new Mountain Pass Lodge, a modern and highly efficient refrigeration system allows athletes to train and compete year-round.

The push track is part of the new 55,000-square-foot Mountain Pass Lodge with new training facilities, showers and lockers, and retail and dining spaces. This facility is among the world’s leading venues for sliding sports for athletes and spectators alike. Spectator viewing is available in comfortable indoor facilities just a few feet away from the track and is a unique opportunity to be up close to these sports and their athletes.

Who: Fresh from their most recent World Cup event and anticipating the upcoming World Cup in Lake Placid, the world’s best athletes and teams will compete head-to-head for points and medals, vying for position on their way to qualifying for the next Olympics. Many of the Team USA athletes who competed in the 2022 Beijing Olympics, as well as the new and emerging faces in bobsled and skeleton, will be on the track, eager to compete in their home country as they begin their quest to qualify for the 2026 Games.

Why: The event is open to the media and public. Spectators can view the action from just feet away, either in the refrigerated facility adjacent to the track or in comfortable lounge areas. Announcers and interviewers will provide live commentary as athletes demonstrate their power and speed on the indoor ice. In recent years, ORDA has invested heavily in revitalizing Mt Van Hoevenberg’s facilities as part of a series of projects to transform Lake Placid’s Olympic venues, elevate guests’ experiences, and modernize the sites for many more years of sport and recreational use. Witnessing a World Push Championship is a rare opportunity for the public to be up close to these sports and the world’s best athletes in competition.

Tickets and Additional Information:  Capacity is limited at the push track. Admission to preliminary runs is free. Tickets for the evening finals on both days are available inside the Mountain Pass Lodge or online in advance. Tickets provide access to the lower half of the Ice House Push Track and Henry’s Tavern for adults (20-64) and teens (13- 19), and the cost is $20. Seniors (65+) and juniors (7-12) are $15, and children six and under are free. A two-day ticket for adults (20-64) and teens (13- 19) is $30. Seniors (65+) and juniors (7-12) are $20, and children six and under are free. For ages seven and above, a VIP admission ticket is also available, granting access to the upper half of the Ice House Push Track and a VIP room with food and beverage for $75.
