Overview
The 2022 International Figure Skating Classic kicks off the International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series, a slate of 10 international competitions around the nation happening throughout the 2022-23 season. From September 13-16, this major international competition will feature all four figure skating disciplines (Women, Men, Pairs, and Ice Dance), and results will count toward each competitor’s International Skating Union (ISU) World Standing Points and is widely recognized among skating enthusiasts as an opportunity to discover emerging talent and see the year’s new skating programs of rising stars.
In conjunction with this senior-level event, the U.S. Figure Skating Association is also holding a Junior Skating Challenge featuring both competitive skating and classes. Novice and junior skaters are invited to participate as part of their development and preparation for senior-level international competition.

Anticipated Skaters
Twenty-one U.S. skaters will compete on home ice for a spot on the podium.
Three women will represent the U.S. at the event: Jill Heiner, Sonja Hilmer and Audrey Shin. Shin recently won the gold medal at the 2022 Cranberry Cup with Hilmer standing next to her on the podium, capturing the silver. Heiner heads to Lake Placid fresh off a sixth-place finish at the 2022 Philadelphia Summer International.
Four men will compete for Team USA, including Jimmy Ma, Ilia Malinin, Camden Pulkinen and Eric Sjoberg. Ma earned the silver medal at the 2021 U.S. International Classic and looks to earn a spot on the podium again this year. Malinin is the 2022 U.S. silver medalist and finished ninth at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2022. Pulkinen finished fifth at the 2022 World Championships, and Sjoberg recently earned bronze at the 2022 Cranberry Cup.
In pairs, four U.S. teams will vie for a spot on the podium: Emily Chan and Spencer Howe, Maria Mokhova and Ivan Mokhov, Valentina Plazas and Maximiliano Fernandez, and Megan Wessenberg and Blake Eisenach. Chan and Howe are the 2022 U.S. pairs pewter medalists and silver medalists at the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2022. Mokhova and Mokhov, the 2019 U.S. junior pairs pewter medalists, will be making their international debut in Lake Placid. Plazas and Fernandez are the 2021 U.S. junior pairs bronze medalists and Wessenberg and Eisenach are the 2022 U.S. junior pairs pewter medalists.
Three ice dance teams will represent Team USA at the U.S. International Classic: Lorraine McNamara and Anton Spiridonov, Eva Pate and Logan Bye, and Katarina Wolfkostin and Jeffrey Chen. McNamara and Spiridonov recently won the gold medal at the 2022 Lake Placid Ice Dance International, and Pate and Bye earned silver at the same event. Wolfkostin and Chen, who finished fourth at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2022, return to Lake Placid after a bronze-medal finish at the 2022 Lake Placid Ice Dance International.
