There’s a lot to celebrate on Olympic and Paralympic Day, June 23, 2022! The birth of the modern Olympic Games and the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are among them. Also at the top of our list is celebrating being active and living the Olympic values around the three pillars of Olympic Day — move, learn and discover!
This day is recognized and honored in hundreds of countries around the globe. In Lake Placid, the world capital of winter sports and one of only three cities in the world to have hosted two Winter Olympic games, the day takes on special meaning. So, in partnership with the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Lake Placid, the New York Olympic Regional Development Authority is recognizing the importance of sport in our lives with a series of fun activities, open to all, and held in locations around the community:
The Lake Placid Figure Skating Championships — Begins on Olympic Day 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Olympic Center
Big Dreams, an inspiring presentation by Kathaleen Cutone — Team USA leader for the Winter Games in Beijing, Kathaleen will speak at 1:00 pm in the Olympic Center
Totally 80s: 80 Heirlooms from the 80 Olympics — An exhibit of artifacts by the Lake Placid Olympic Museum, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Olympic Center
Meet and Greet Olympians and Sport Program Discovery — Meet Olympians and try new sports from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at Mt Van Hoevenberg
“Celebration of Movement” Olympic Day Run/Walk/Wheel — 2k and 5k distances, all ages and all abilities, 4:00 to 5:00 pm at Mt Van Hoevenberg
And the Miracle on Ice movie — Free showing at the Palace Theater, downtown Lake Placid
