Welcome
The Headquarters of History

Check out the Facilities tab to learn more about the Olympic Center.

In the Olympic Center and on its grounds are skating rinks, open to the public, where gold medals have been won – including the famous Herb Brooks Arena where the “Miracle On Ice” game was played and the speed skating Oval where many Olympic and other international speed skating competitions have been held.

Even the building itself is a monument to Olympic history. It was initially erected to house both sporting facilities and act as the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and then later added into for the 1980 Olympics.
Located right in the heart of Lake Placid Village near restaurants and lodging, The Olympic Center is a great place to stop before or after a meal, or as a starting point or cap-end to your day!

Ice Rinks & Arenas
1932 Jack Shea Arena
The 1932 Arena is networked to the Olympic Center’s new refrigeration plant, which is designed to make ice faster, more reliably, and more efficiently than in past. The new rink includes sound-absorbing panels for better acoustics throughout the arena, a new dehumidification system, a new concession area, and new dasher boards. The rink can now be converted to either international or NHL size standards. All seats have been replaced in an attractive deep blue color, and new seating areas have been added to the balcony side of the stadium. The 1932’s ice is maintained with an electric Zamboni.
1980 Herb Brooks Arena
Where the USA Olympic Hockey team won against Russia and went on to win the gold medal in the 1980 olympic games. The 1980 Rink sits in the Herb Brooks Arena and has been updated and renovated in 2021 and will be ready to accommodate international or NHL events. In particular, the 1980 Rink and concourse were equipped with LED Event & TV Quality Lighting and a new HVAC system. Renovations to the Locker rooms, public restrooms, concessions stands, and hospitality suites have also been made.
James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval
The James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval is one of the few outdoor rinks of its kind left in the country and it sits in the heart of Lake Placid, adjacent to the Olympic Center. The facility just underwent a major revitalization, including updates to the refrigeration system, which will enable a longer and more consistent skating season.
