Olympic and Paralympic Day | June 23

Olympic and Paralymic Day is a celebration marking the founding of the modern Olympic Games and the setting up of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on June 23, 1894. It celebrates being active and living the Olympic values. The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority is hosting activities celebrating our Olympic legacy around the three pillars of Olympic Day, “move, learn and discover” and as celebrated by hundreds of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) from around the world.

MOVE

The Olympic Day walk/ run is a traditional Olympic Day activity that displays the unifying power of sport and encourages being active.

LEARN

ORDA hosts athletes and events throughout the year and the benefits of the modernized training facilities continue to contribute to the Olympic movement.  On Olympic Day, the Lake Placid Figure Skating Championships kick off at the Olympic Center. Watch first-hand as champions in the sport of figure skating hard work and training come to life. Join the skating community and be inspired by a former champion herself, Kathaleen Cutone.

From the days of when the Olympics took place to today, sporting events bring Olympians to our region. Whether to train, compete, coach, or even judge, our community is constantly filled with memories, experiences, and talents. From where we are, where we have come from and where we are going, you will discover there are more than incredible things happening right here and now.

All activities are open to the public.

10:00- 2:00 – DISCOVER | Lake Placid Figure Skating Championships | Olympic Center

Spectate and learn more about the sport of figure skating at the Lake Placid Figure Skating Championships . Open to the public, and tickets available at the door.

1:00 – LEARN | Big Dreams Presentation | Conference Center 

Kathaleen Cutone will inspire and share her experiences from most recently as Team Leader for the Winter Games in Beijing and as a Winter World University Games athlete.

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM | LEARN | Temporary Exhibit Gallery, presented by the Lake Placid Olympic Museum
Learn more about the Olympic movement. Visitors will see historical objects up close andhave the opportunity to hold the 1980 Olympic W inter Games torch. In anticipation of the newly reimagined Lake Placid Olympic Museum’s opening in late 2022, the new logo and design renderings will be available to view.

3:00-5:00 | MOVE |  Celebration of Movement at Mt Van Hoevenberg, co-hosted with the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee

  • 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM | Meet and Greet with Olympians, Program Sign-Up
    Meet Olympians and Paralympians, watch training on our indoor push track. Test your winter skills in summer with roller sports, climb in our new Climbing Center and more. Discover sport programs available in our region from organizations and clubs throughout the region.
  • 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Olympic Day Run – Ready, Set, Run, Walk, Wheel
    A global tradition, choose the 5K or 2K, and follow the course that athletes train and compete on! Registration is available online, and the first 100 will receive a FREE t-shirt.

6:30 | Miracle | Palace Theatre
